
Dhaba Style Dal Fry
LunchFry Dal is a delicious and comforting Indian lentil dish made with masoor dal, onions, tomatoes, aromatic spices, and a flavorful tadka. Serve it hot with roti or jeera rice.
Ingredients
- Masoor dal – 1 cup
- Water – 2 glasses
- Salt – 1 tsp
- Ghee – 1 tsp
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
- Oil – 2 tbsp
- Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
- Curry leaves – 8–10
- Green chillies – 2
- Onions – 2, chopped
- Tomatoes – 2, chopped
- Kasuri methi – 1 tbsp
- Ginger-garlic paste – 1 tsp
- Red chilli powder – 1 tbsp
- Coriander powder – 1 tbsp
- Garam masala – ½ tsp
- Water – 1 cup, as needed
- Coriander leaves – 2 tbsp
- Oil – 2 tbsp, for tadka
- Dry red chillies – 3–4
- Red chilli powder – ½ tsp, for tadka
Cooking Method
- Wash the masoor dal thoroughly and soak it in 1 glass of water for 30 minutes.
- Add the soaked dal to a pan with 2 glasses of water.
- Add salt, turmeric powder, and ghee, then mix well.
- Cook on medium heat until the dal becomes completely soft, stirring occasionally.
- Once cooked, set the dal aside.
- Heat 2 tbsp oil in a pan.
- Add cumin seeds, curry leaves, green chillies, and chopped onions.
- Sauté the onions for 1–2 minutes until soft.
- Add kasuri methi, tomatoes, and salt.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and all the spices, then mix well.
- Cook until the tomatoes soften and the oil separates.
- Add the cooked dal and mix well.
- Add water as needed to adjust the consistency.
- Cover and cook for 1–2 minutes.
- Finally, add coriander leaves.
- For the tadka, heat 2 tbsp oil and add dry red chillies.
- Turn off the heat and add red chilli powder.
- Pour the prepared tadka over the dal.
- Serve hot with roti or jeera rice.
